Union Cabinet Approves Massive Extension of PMGSY-III Rural Road Initiative Until March 2028

To drastically enhance the nation's rural infrastructure network, the Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi, has officially approved the extension of the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana – III (PMGSY – III). Originally slated to conclude in March 2025, the ambitious rural connectivity program will now run until March 2028. Accompanying this timeline extension is a substantial financial boost, with the revised scheme outlay increasing from ₹80,250 crore to a massive ₹83,977 crore. The core purpose of the PMGSY-III is the comprehensive consolidation of existing through routes and major rural links, directly connecting isolated habitations to crucial facilities such as Gramin Agricultural Markets (GrAMs), higher secondary educational institutions, and hospitals. Furthermore, the extension accommodates the completion of bridges in challenging hilly areas up to March 2029.
