Schools in Ahmedabad and Their Admission Procedure Fees

This is a very serious issue. It is a kind of a burning hot topic to talk on schools in Ahmedabad and their admission procedure. In India, taking Education is to be believed as praying and worship of Godess Saraswati but now a days, i believe Education is more about earning / making money than being themselves as “Guru”. In history, children go to saints (sadhu, muni, rishi-muni) for education and at last they ask them for “guru dakshina” but time has changed. Now, schools charge hefty fees from parents on the name of “So Called Education” – i am telling “so called education” because there is another system apart from “sending to school” is, “sending to tuition”. Agree, time has changed and you need to charge “fees”, but if you call yourself as “School”, you BETTER give education HONESTLY. Why children, in India need to go to take tuition apart from going to school? Why a school teacher, also gives tuition at home?

– parents pay to schools for education – then why their kids still need to go to take tuition?
– parents pay to teachers for tuition – aren’t teachers already being paid by schools for giving education?

then why there is a system called “Tuition”? What government is doing? They speak in their election speech, “we will take education to the next level” – is illness of education in school has been called as “next level” in their dictionaries?

In other countries, education is free! OK, they are developed countries. We are OK as you charge us fees but why the education given in school is so weak that students need to go out and take tuition?

Anyway, as i said earlier; this is an endless topic, a hot burning issue of entire country! Let’s move on to my review about schools in Ahmedabad and their admission procedure.

My son was 3 year old. We had to take his admission in Pre-Primary school (first). That’s how it is now. We have to go with the flow. We really don’t wish to put so much burden on tiny toddlers by sending them to “school” at so early age but everybody’s sending. Let there be a RULE for ALL and we will not send to pre-primary! We seriously don’t want to but we HAVE to! No choice, no options. Though, this school is good; they run only till Sr KG and hence we had to search for other options in schools nearer to our place.

For us, it is almost 12-15 years of time since when we finished our schooling. Imagine, how much things would have been changed in all those years? – NOTHING – what has changed is only FEES that they are charging us (on the name of facilities).

We thought of filling a form to several schools (they are also considered as top schools of Ahmedabad but we still don’t know for what?). We thought for 3 schools initially. Udgam (Jodhpur Cross Road), Maharaja Agrasen (Thaltej) and Prakash (Vastrapur).

Udgam School, Satellite:
I visited their website and there they have mentioned that the admission for Nursery has been opened. We have to fill an online form, take a print, stick a photo of a child, gather some of our education and resident proof documents and submit to the school. OK, we will do this, we decided that and we went to the school to submit. That time, they look at it and tell us what to write, where if we are confused and not written something. As it is online process, we can’t ask anybody straight away. We have to go to school to show them and as soon as they find something to rectify or note written – that entire form is useless (as they say), we cant write anything with pen, we cant update online either. We again, have to come back home and fill a brand new form, take print and re-submit 🙂 How idiotic it is! If there is a facility of ONLINE submission – 1) there has to be an online guidelines for everything (FAQ or any special message that you want to mention for us to write in a form) and 2) there must be a facility to EDIT existing form so that we dont have to fill another form! Good thing is that they don’t charge any form fees, we just went there and re-submitted our documents.

Maharaja Agrasen Vidyalaya, Memnagar:
The most pathetic management this school has. We got to know that they have 2 hours of operation for giving admission forms and we had to rush there early at 5am to stand in a queue! Wow, what an experience was that. When we went, some people were already there and while inquiring, we got to know that they stood there since midnight! So crazy! They charged us Rs 200 for giving us a form. They gave us a date on which we have to go there again to submit our form. We went on a given date and they charged us another Rs 200 and given a receipt number (in which they mentioned of ONLY Rs 200 that we paid them there). They didn’t give us a receive of that Rs 200 that we have given for purchasing a form! Where they have been gone into? Then after few days, they released a list of those who got an admission and our receipt number and name wasnt in the list.

Prakash Higher Secondary School, Vastrapur:
This seems to be like a typical school. Old building, dusty playground and narrow walk-through passage. There, we got a form and asked to pay Rs 100 as form fee. They gave us a receipt for the money we paid for the form. Transparent management. They also gave us a date on which we have to go there with a CHILD for a usual talk. We went on a given date, waited for almost 2 hours for our turn, principal talked to us. That’s it. They decided not to give us an admission (we still don’t know on which basis)!

Is there some sort of criteria or filtering process? LOL. They accept or reject whom they really like or dislike, but on what basis? By our face, our communication, our background, our child. What is it?
