Review of PVR Cinemas Multiplex at Acropolis Mall SG Road Thaltej Ahmedabad

We visit a multiplex in our Ahmedabad city and one of the best multiplex is PVR Cinemas. We like to watch movies there specially for screen size, sound system and comfortable chairs. Every place has pluses and minuses and so as PVR Cinemas too. PVR Cinemas is located at 3rd Floor, Acropolis mall, SG Road in Ahmedabad.

Tickets:
We usually buy tickets online and at the ticket counter. There is a disappointment. People working at ticket counter are not professionals. They behave like they own the multiplex. They are not polite at all. They are not so serious towards their job. They do the job right but not polite and responsive. Mic system is so bad that neither of us hear each others’ voice clearly. There are 3 people sitting next to each other and we just cant hear to whom we are talking to, because of noise of everybody all together trying to talk to each other. They are not willing to show us our seats while booking on their computer! How pathetic it is. Other multiplexes show us and they are in fact willing to show us! I dont know what strategies they might have made to refuse our offer to show our seat while booking. They tell us seat number but hey, we cant figure out exact row just by listening a seat number! Online sales is even more pathetic. There is no trouble booking online but only problem i see is an extra charge on the name of “convenience charge” – then shut this facility down. Have we asked you to sell online for our convenience? This is a computer application, once developed; works forever. You dont have to charge us extra for this and for what? It is even better if more people book online, you dont have to keep many people working at your ticket counter! Just a money making concept for their business but sort of cheating with customers to ask them to pay more money.

Their ticket price range between Rs 120 and Rs 450, depending upon day (weekdays and weekends), time (morning shows and evening shows) and budget, star cast of the movie. If it is a big budget with big star cast movie releasing at festival seasons, their ticket charges are as higher as Rs 450 to Rs 600 and if it is a low budget (regular) movie releasing on any date, their ticket charges are as normal as around Rs 120 to Rs 220.

Ambiance:
When we enter into a theater waiting lounge, the area is cleaned but lights are mostly dimmed. It should be bright and shining, not dimmed. Dark and dimmed atmosphere suits when actually the movie is getting played. Not outside, else it looks very filthy and cozy! Not just love birds visit your theater to make love. Family audiences also visit and many people visit with children too. They need proper lighting. Anyway it is just ok.

Screens:
It has 5 screens and all are spacious. Screen size is big and good for visual treat. Sound system is excellent. We get to hear good bass effect with clear voice. Chairs are excellent. They are very much comfortable, compared to other cinema halls. They are smooth to adjust according to your comfort and that is the biggest plus.

Food and Beverages:
Well, i dont know what has happened to this industry but they charge very high for food and beverages. It is almost equal or half to ticket price! When ticket rates are already so high and expensive then what would common people do with food? They charge so much for popcorn and a coke. They both are so cheap in retail market then what is the purpose of charging so high for them? Not just those 2 but almost all food is expensive.

Overall Expense:
If we count on a single family consisting of parent and a child (of 3 Years and above), PVR would be very expensive affair for them. For a good movie, if we calculate generally by considering ticket price as Rs 200 per ticket, it would be almost Rs 200 x 3 persons = Rs 600 only for tickets. They sell soft drinks for almost between Rs 90 and Rs 150. Their Samosa, Nachos, Pop Corns and many other snacks are above Rs 100. So if a family of 3 persons visiting PVR on weekend to enjoy a good movie with some light snacks, would cost them anything between Rs 1000 and Rs 1200.
