Review of Nal Sarovar Bird Sanctuary Tourist Place in Sanand Gujarat India

We visited Nal Sarovar Bird Sanctuary, a tourist place at Sanand, Gujarat (India) on 19 Nov 2014. We went from Thaltej, Ahmedabad. It is approximately 70km from Thaltej. We have to go straight towards Sanand Cross Road and need to take a right turn from that Sanand Circle. Road from Sanand Circle to Nal Sarovar is very good. There is no potholes, cracks or damage in the road and we can have pleasurable driving experience. If any small village comes, there are few minor bumps on road which become sort of obstacle to our speed. Outer scenery is equally enjoyable. We went in morning 7am and hence we didnt face any traffic on road.

What would be better time to visit?
Reach as early as possible by around 6am in winter. You will be able to see variety of birds.

Schedule:
Everyday from 6am to 6pm

While entering into Nal Sarovar, we have been advised to drive to parking area where there is a ticket window. Charges are mentioned on board. They charge Rs 20 per person (on weekdays) and Rs 25 (on weekends) for Indian residents where as Rs 250 for foreigners. This is only for entry tickets. If you want to have boating experience, ticket charge is Rs 220 per person for 2 hours. That includes boating and travelling into bird sanctuary through their (private) cars as it is at about 2km distance from parking area. They dont allow us to drive into that area in our vehicles. If you want to take a digital camera, charge is Rs 100 extra but we can take mobile and take photos and videos. (I don’t know who would be that person who has made or approved this stupid rule!) What would happen if we would take a camera along with us and why there is an extra charge for camera? Is camera a some sort of “odd” equipment? What does it make a difference if we take a picture from camera or a mobile camera? If you want to attract tourist, make Gujarat really a Vibrant tourist place, get rid of such seriously stupid rules.

In a way, we can say that visiting Nal Sarovar with family for bird watching and boating would be almost expensive for a common man. If a family of 4 goes there to spend few hours, almost around Rs 1000 would be spent for tickets only! (Rs 220 x 4 = Rs 880 + parking charge + maintenance charge). We then taken into bird sanctuary and asked to wait for few minutes till they arrange a boatman for us. It took almost 10-15 minutes. An old rabari man (boatman) came with a boat and asked us to hop into it carefully. Once we settled into it, he started sailing it through water. Wow. What an experience. He said that he will take us to another side of the lake (sort of an island). He guided us throughout the journey towards other end by telling us names of birds, their country, history etc. Atmosphere is very quite when we sail through a boat. Water is not so deep. It is almost 4 to 6 Ft only and so as there is no fear of anything. There is no water animals inside too. We seriously enjoyed throughout reaching to the other end of the lake. There, they have some local villagers (ladies), ready to cook for you. They force you but we didnt feel eating there as we dont know from where they bring raw food to cook, how old their materials are. Then they took us to a 2 storey tower from where we can see an aerial view of entire lake and surrounded area. We can go around on that place to explore too. Then we returned back in a same boat. This has taken almost over an hour or so but we are OK if we havent finished entire 2 hours of boating. Whatever we watched and what we experienced made us happy.

There is a small garden inside, a small cafeteria and a sort of museum. Then we returned back to parking area in their car. There is a horse riding facility and when we ask for charges, they tell us to give anything between Rs 50 to 100! But we didnt agree and they asked us for how much we want to pay and they got ready even for Rs 10 (for a small ride).

There is another garden and children play area beside parking. It is well maintained and quite as well. Kids can enjoy playing. They don’t allows us to take outside food inside Bird Sanctuary so that the inside environment and lake don’t get polluted. That is a good action. They keep it clean and maintain well.

Everybody, must visit this place once in a life. If you love peace and quite atmosphere, visit there during weekdays and in early morning time. (6am even better).
