Review of Micromax Unite 2 A106 Android KitKat 4.4.2

Lot of people questioning about how to use cast screen in micromax. I have tried to explain it with a video on cast screen function in Micromax mobiles. Scroll down and watch a video.

I have purchased Micromax Unite 2 A106 Android KitKat based smart phone from an online retailer at reasonable price. I am happy to have the latest version smart phone, and later i have updated Micromax Unite 2 to Android Lollipop 5.0.2. Following are some of the configuration key points of this mobile phone:

  • Display: 4.7 inches IPS LCD panel with 800×480 resolution (199ppi)
  • Battery: 2000mAh
  • Storage: 4GB, expandable via microSD card
  • Camera:  5MP rear with autofocus and flash, 2MP front
  • SoC: Mediatek MT6582
  • CPU: 1.3GHz quad-core
  • GPU: Mali-400MP2
  • RAM: 1GB
  • Operating system: Android 4.4.2
  • Connectivity: 3G, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, Dual-SIM

Micromax announced the Unite 2 just a few days after the launch of Motorola’s most affordable handset, the Moto E. The Unite 2 has been launched to give the Moto E a tough competition and if we compare the two, the winner is quite obvious.

It has smart looking design and rubberized back cover which gives a premium look as well as nice grip on the back. It has a very decent camera lens which gives good images at 5MP as rear and 2MP as front camera. The Unite 2 runs on Android 4.4.2 KitKat and has a stock UI with some customized colorful icons. The handset comes preloaded with apps like Kingsoft Office, few games, Micromax’s very own games and apps store, and the MAD app which allows you to earn recharge credit by just watching adverts. The handset also supports 20 regional languages which makes it quite useful for the ones who like chatting in their region specific language. It also comes loaded with all the Google based apps and of course Google Now.

Connectivity through Wi-Fi is equally good and bluetooth is useful. Widgets are easy to put on the home screens. It allows to add more home screens as we add more widgets. Speaker volume is bit low, not so loud. Setting up FM stations on FM radio is easy. Music player is good as well. It allows us to install apps on external SD card which is pretty good too. It has MiraCast function which allows us to mirror the screen of mobile to our smart TV by using Cast Screen feature given on quick launcher. It also has USB OTG support and it means that i can directly connect a pen drive and read/write contents. This phone comes with these many and more features.

This mobile phone from Micromax has an important hidden feature that we can only come to know when it has a problem and we take it to a service / repair center. I went there just for a minor issue and got to know about it. Somebody came with a phone and a person sitting on front desk said that it has water damage problem. I asked about it that how did you come to know without even opening a phone! He shown me how did he come to know. When we take out rear cover and remove a battery, there on the top (where battery’s circuit part comes) becomes red (above Micromax logo) and same with battery too. A white sticker with red cross becomes completely red and that indicates water damage. Then he opened the phone and proven himself right by showing me water damage issue. Excellent technology by Micromax. I have used Nokia, HTC and Sony in the past but never came across such a technology!

I heard and read that people compare Micromax Unite 2 with Moto E and come to a conclusion that Micromax is a clear winner in terms of speed, battery backup and user interface. Overall Micromax Unite 2 A106 smart phone is worth it’s price.
