Online retailer Flipkart is all set to provide an online marketing platform to handloom weavers. The Ministry of Textiles on Monday signed an MoU with Flipkart to provide online marketing platform to handloom weavers – an endeavour to boost the handloom sector, empower weavers and boost manufacturing in the country.

Through this exclusive agreement, Flipkart will provide weavers in India online marketing platform, infrastructural support in data analytics and customer acquisition to help them get remunerative prices for their products and scale up their business .

E-commerce is one of the thrust areas for the Narendra Modi government. Finance Minister Arun Jaitley in the Budget had allowed manufacturing companies to sell their products through retail, including e-commerce platforms, without any additional approval.

The weavers will sell their products under their brand name and evolve as an entrepreneur selling his products directly to buyers across the country without stepping out of their workplace.
