Intex Cloud FX Mozilla FireFox OS SmartphoneMozilla, known for its Firefox web browser, is venturing into the low-cost smartphone market by launching a cellphone priced at about $33 (Rs 2500) in India. The Cloud FX, a joint project of India-based phone maker Intex and Mozilla, is a low-cost smartphone running Firefox OS. Mozilla hopes the phone will open up new markets by getting more people to use the Internet. SnapDeal puts it on sale with an offer of just Rs 1999.

On Monday (25 Aug 2014), Mozilla unveiled its first ultra low-cost smartphone, Intex Cloud FX, together with Indian handset company Intex Technologies India Ltd. Mozilla’s feature phone-priced smartphone went on sale on the website Snapdeal.com, India’s largest e-marketplace. The smartphone runs on Mozilla’s Firefox software and supports two SIM cards and is powered by a one gigahertz processor, with expandable memory of up to 4 gigabytes. Mozilla is targeting first time smartphone buyers who haven’t yet upgraded their basic feature phones because of high prices or technology specifications.

Since its debut on the ZTE Open a year ago in Spain, Firefox OS has launched on phones in more than 15 countries across Europe, Latin America, and South America. The Cloud FX is its first phone in an Asian country.
