The fire officials had arrived at the riverfront after receiving information that there was a corpse floating on the water.

According to police sources, Nikunj Shah (name changed), a resident of Bapunagar, was in love with a girl in the same locality. “The girl’s family came to know about this and decided to get her engaged to another boy. Her recent engagement to another boy left Nikunj feeling depressed. According to fire officials, it was a lucky escape for Nikunj as just two days ago, the fire department had issued a directive, ordering that a speedboat be kept at the riverfront at all times of the day. “This directive was issued after the recent spike in suicide cases at the riverfront. Hence, we were patrolling the area and spotted the teenager,” Rathod said. After being given first aid treatment and being counselled by cops, Nikunj was handed over to his family. Meanwhile, Chief Fire Officer M F Dastur said, “Many cases of suicides and attempted suicides have been registered where people jump into the river. Hence, we have decided to patrol the area regularly and have a team ready for any rescue mission. This boy is certainly lucky.”
